Top DT may visit UT this weekend

Greenwood, SC DT Kelcy Quarles (6-5 275) has been committed to South Carolina since the Spring, but that hasn't stopped UT and other schools from continuing to recruit him.  First, let me point out that Quarles is still committed to the Gamecocks at this time.  It is also worth pointing out that Quarles' father has a medical condition that could prevent him from traveling; therefore, he likes the notion of his son playing down the road in Columbia.

However, if any team poses a threat to steal the #2 DT in the nation from the Gamecocks, it is the VOLS.

It has been noted that there is a strong mutual interest between Quarles and UT.  Tennessee coaches were able to get Quarles on campus for their lineman camp this Summer, and Quarles came away so impressed that he flirted with reopening his recruitment after returning home.  Quarles stated that he loved coach Ed Orgeron and the personal training he gave him while in Knoxville.  Unfortuanately, Quarles' father put this to rest a week later by stating that his son was fully committed to South Carolina.

Now it appears that Quarles is reconsidering his USC commitment more than ever after visiting Columbia two weekends ago.  Exactly what happened on the trip is unknown, but Quarles said he saw some things while on the trip that have caused him to look at other schools.  It is likely that this is a result of the recent disciplinary issues at South Carolina, since the weekend Quarles visited saw two Gamecock players get in trouble with law after 3 a.m.

Yesterday was the first day that coaches could call prospects, and Quarles talked to coaches from USC, Clemson, and UT.  Quarles said he is thinking about visiting UT this weekend for their opener against WKU.

UT will also host 2009 QB Tyler Bray this weeekend; a 6'6 QB who is committed to SDSU.  Although rivals.com won't release it's updated top 250 until later today, it has been leaked that Bray jumped higher than any other play in the nation.  After taking home back-to-back Golden Arm awards at Elite Eleven camps this summer (which is awarded to the camps most accurate passer), Bray is expected to land right outside the top 100 and crack the top 10 quarterbacks list.

Bray is expected to make his final decision shortly after returning home, but could very likely pull the trigger before leaving Rocky Top.
