Hey ESPN: 3 Recruits this week, lets talk about that

You wouldn't know that the UT coaching staff was good at anything after the way ESPN and everyone has piled on the VOLS staff this week. I truly believe if Lane Kiffin passed gas, ESPN would make it it's featured story on the front page. After the twitter fiasco, it is evident ESPN hates UT and our first year coach.

I love Manny, but the steroid thing couldn't have happened at a better time considering the Daniel Hood signing. Hopefully Lebron and Kobe will keep the experts talking about sports instead of insignificant and harmless comments on a Coach's twitter page.

But it's Friday, got a 3 day weekend, and the VOLS are getting recruits out of everywhere. Today UT signed a JUCO player out of Chabot C.C. named Patrick Harris; A big 6'5-300 lb Defensive Tackle.

What makes Harris unique is he didn't play football until he got to Chabot because his high school didn't have a team. He got a job after high school and decided to give it a try after his cousin went there to play. Obviously his size makes him a stud on the interior line, but experts call Harris a beast despite his raw style of play.

Harris was recruited by Ed Orgeron and has never been to the UT campus. Apparently Orgeron liked what he seen because UT was Harris' first offer.

Four of UT's six commitments for 2010 are defensive lineman; 2 DTs and 2 DEs. With the lack of depth on the D line, recruiting JUCOs will immediately add depth at the position.

Yesterday, the VOLS received a commitment from another position of need for the VOLS, linebackers. Like Harris, Orgeron reeled in 6'3- 235 OLB Bruce Irvin from a California Community College. Additionally, UT was Irvin's first offer as well. Not only is Irvin a stud, he was clocked by two different scouts running a sub 4.4/40.

Man, if G Williams, Askew, Nelson, NM-T, and Irvin pan out, that is one big and fast LB core.

The staff is also evaluating the QB at Mount San Antonio C.C. (where Irvin is at) named Nick Lamison. Lamison threw for 3,479 yards and 36 touchdown passes a year ago.

Expect to hear Cameron Newton rumors from now until winter. If you don't remember, Cam Newton was the five star QB and Tim Tebow's backup at UF. Newton was suspended from the Gators for "purchasing a stolen laptop" and then disposing of it when the police arrived.

The reason it will take so long for UT and other schools to offer Newton is because most people don't feel his 5 games of footage at UF is enough to evaluate him. If Newton lives up to his potential, top colleges will be lining up to extend him an offer.

Considering Orgeron took former VOL Brent Schaffer after going the JUCO route, I would expect the staff to do the same considering Newton was higher rated than Schaeffer out of high school. Hopefully Newton, who grew up the son of a minister, can keep his nose clean and straighten his life up while playing under the radar this season.

I'm sure more is to come this weekend. Everyone have a great weekend and be safe.
