A star running back at Manatee High School, who is slated to play college ball at South Carolina, was arrested late Wednesday on a marijuana charge.
Benjamin D. Axon, 20, of Bradenton, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of marijuana possession with intent to sell.
Axon was in the back seat of a car pulled over by a Bradenton police officer in the 200 block of 11th Avenue West, according to a report. The officer smelled marijuana and asked the occupants if they had anything illegal.
Axon told the officer he did and displayed 23 small bags of marijuana, which he said belonged to him, the report said.
He has since posted $2,500 bond to be released from the Manatee County Jail, according to the Manatee Sheriff's Office Web site. [full story]
